The Lords of Hell
A Chronicle of the Prime Evils
Before the creation of Sanctuary, the Eternal Conflict raged between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. At the heart of this war stood the three Prime Evils: Diablo, the Lord of Terror; Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred; and Baal, the Lord of Destruction.
The Lord of Terror
Diablo, youngest of the Prime Evils, embodies the primal fear that lurks in every mortal heart. His domain in the Burning Hells was a nightmare realm where souls were twisted by their deepest terrors until nothing remained but screaming husks.
Unlike his brothers who rule through manipulation or raw destruction, Diablo's power lies in corruption from within. He does not simply destroy his enemies—he becomes them, wearing their flesh while their consciousness remains trapped, watching helplessly as their hands commit atrocities.
The Lord of Hatred
Mephisto is the eldest and most cunning of the Prime Evils. Where Diablo inspires terror and Baal brings destruction, Mephisto sows the seeds of hatred that turn brother against brother and nation against nation.
His greatest triumph was the corruption of the Zakarum church, turning humanity's greatest bastion of faith into an instrument of darkness. Through subtle whispers and promised power, he transformed holy men into fanatics who would burn the innocent in his name.
The Lord of Destruction
Baal exists solely to unmake. He does not scheme like Mephisto or corrupt like Diablo—he simply destroys everything in his path until nothing remains. His hordes swept across the mortal realm like locusts, leaving only ash and silence.
The Dark Exile
In a scheme that would echo through eternity, the Lesser Evils rose against their masters. Azmodan, Lord of Sin, and Belial, Lord of Lies, led a rebellion that cast the Prime Evils from Hell itself. But this exile was no defeat—it was the Prime Evils' plan all along, for now they could walk freely upon Sanctuary, the world of mortals.
